Although she had been honored by the Washington Area Music Association , she was virtually unknown outside her native Washington, D. I've collected all of the albums her friends and family have put together and released. Her story is tragic in that she passed when she was only 33 years old. Only two of her albums were released during her lifetime.

This collection gathers 20 of her best performances from all of the albums that have been released. Amazingly, though some of the recordings are "demos" and live recordings, you never get the feeling that they are sub-par recordings in any way.

I was amazed at how perfectly they blend together. And the song selection is very difficult to argue with. So order this one. It's an essential collection by an essential artist.

What a gift she was to this world with talent. She had the voice of an angel. This is a purchase you will never regret, I can assure you.

I had never heard of Eva Cassidy until a Facebook friend in Italy! As you might guess from the title, this album is a selection of tracks from several of her other albums. If you don't know her voice or her work, this is a good place to start. Eva Cassidy is the greatest singer I know. There is a soft patina on it that robs it of her vitality. This was a vibrant performer. Very distasteful! Why are all songs rounded off at the end with a kind of fade-out?

Some songs are even dubbed with a different accompaniment. Very poor production. Again, robbing the spontaneity. I was shopping in a little boutique and this wonderful music was playing over the sound system and I asked the owner what CD she was playing only to find out it was a playlist she had put together but the vocalist I was asking about was Eva Cassidy. I am 71 years old and had never heard of her. I am a huge Norah Jones fan and Eva's music was mesmerizing! Went home that night looked her up on the internet read her story and bought the CD.

I have played it almost everyday either in the car on in my house. Love it! Just wish I had known her back in the 80's. I don't think I can add anything that hasn't already been said about the heart and soul that Eva Cassidy put into her music.

I can say, though, that I can play this album over and over and it never ceases to inspire me. The vinyl format brings out the most of her voice, which is so full of emotion and beauty that it's difficult to listen to it without reflecting on the fragility of life. Eva was a shining star in the world of music whose voice was silenced far too early. The selection is excellent although this LP has been remastered or created slightly bright. The imaging is very nice and the detail and upper treble shimmer of Eva's voice comes through nicely on this Best of Eva Cassidy LP although in a slightly lean way that over accentuates the treble and robs a little warmth from the midrange and makes me inclined to want to turn the music down.

The Songbird LP seems to have captured the richness of the mid-range of Eva Cassidy's voice much better and rendered the natural beauty and timbre of her voice in a more natural and soothing way.

Some will prefer the Best of Eva Cassidy with its slightly more lean and detailed presentation and larger song selection - as it is still indeed a very good recording. Yet, if I had to choose one LP or the other based on the quality of the recording, I personally would go with Songbird for its more musical and rich well textured mid-range. However, those who feel that their system lacks treble or viny in general lacks treble, will love this LP. A super transaction. Received by birthday girl on her birthday, no less.

And, if you don't know Eva Cassidy, you owe it to yourself to see if there is a copy of this for you. She is without doubt the most incredible female singer that nobody has ever heard of, unless you live in Great Britain where this American lady was a No.
